Emitida en Japón entre febrero y octubre de 1999, esta etapa lleva a Ash, Misty y Tracey al Archipiélago Naranja, una región tropical con reglas únicas y líderes de gimnasio distintos a los de Kanto.
La serie destaca por su ambientación isleña, la introducción de Pokémon como Lapras y Marill, y el desarrollo emocional de Ash como entrenador.
